Publisher NIS America has announced that it will be bringing Disgaea 3, the latest volume in the cult strategy franchise to North American PS3s in August of 2008, featuring a new cast, story, and game system. NIS says Disgaea 3 is a sequel to the original Disgaea first released on PlayStation 2 and, most recently, the PlayStation Portable. It notes that in the game, "character units have a limit to their movement and attack ranges, based on level and weapons equipped." New to the series is the addition of a "Geo Block," a cube shaped terrain altering object, which moves the strategic battles from two dimensions to a full three, used to access and attack enemies they could not normally reach. Also featured in the game will be familiar Geo Panels, "stat altering elemental properties that are placed upon certain parts of the battlefield" which can boost or reduce stats, and the Item World, a randomly-generated battle stage within every item, used to strengthen items when defeated.
