Nvidia has announced the Titanium series of graphics processing units, consisting of three new products: the GeForce3 Ti 500, the GeForce3 Ti 200, and the GeForce2 Ti. The GeForce3 Ti 500 (which supports 3.8 billion anti-aliased samples per second) and the GeForce3 Ti 200 (2.8 billion anti-aliased samples per second) both support shadow buffer technology and 3D textures. The use of shadow buffers -- hardware acceleration for creating realistic shadows -- has been used in animated films like Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. Using 3D textures, developers can create visual effects like the ability to give objects three-dimensional properties such as wood grain or marbling. The GeForce2 Ti (delivering 1 billion pixels/sec) features a transform and lighting architecture that delivers up to 31 million triangles/sec., a high-definition video processor, and supports per-pixel shading. All of the GeForce Titanium GPUs use the recently announced Detonator XP Unified Driver Architecture, which supports Windows XP and improves performance under Windows 98, Windows 2000, and Windows Me. All three Titanium models will be available as add-in cards as early as October 12th, 2001.
