Nvidia today announced that it has been elected as a permanent member of the OpenGL Architecture Review Board. Nvidia is now one of nine permanent members, a list that consists of 3dlabs, ATI, Apple, Evans & Sutherland, HP, IBM, Intel, and SGI. Nvidia had been an auxiliary member, as Dell, Matrox, and Sun still are. (All permanent and voting members can vote on technical issues.) According to OpenGL ARB secretary Jon Leech of SGI, “Promotion from auxiliary to permanent member status recognizes NVIDIA’s major contributions to OpenGL 1.3, 1.4, and 1.5 as well as its efforts at leading or participating in the development of many ARB-approved OpenGL extensions.”
