The Heritage Foundation's manifesto for the possible next administration could do great harm to many, including large portions of the game development community.
Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter looks at hardware bundle sales to estimate that Xbox 360 Kinect bundles are outselling PlayStation 3 Move bundles at a ratio of "over 5:1," as the device continues to drive Xbox 360 hardware sales.
Only one fifth of the PlayStation 3 units sold in February were Move bundles, implying that the month was "modest" for Sony's motion controls. So estimates Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter, despite the fact the firm doesn't track individual peripheral sales. But by looking at console bundles, the analyst can get a reasonable picture of the penetration ratio for Move versus Microsoft's Kinect: "Over two thirds of Xbox 360 sales included bundles with Microsoft’s Kinect peripheral, as Xbox 360 Kinect console bundles again outsold PS3 Move console bundles by over 5:1," says Pachter. "We note that the top selling Kinect software titles easily outsold their Move counterparts," he adds. Microsoft recently announced 10 million hardware units of Kinect have been sold to date, along with 10 million software units. The most recent announcement from Sony regarding sales figures for PlayStation Move controllers was November 30, 2010, when the company revealed 4.1 million devices sold in its first two months. That was a slightly slower start than Kinect's 2.5 million units in 25 days. Kinect appears to be driving Xbox 360 hardware sales for Microsoft as well; analyst Doug Creutz recently said that the console looked poised to outsell the Wii on a trailing 12-month basis for the first time.
