David Reeves, chief of Sony's PlayStation operations in Europe, made some cryptic comments regarding the PlayStation 3 launch to industry trade paper MCV, which were later clarified by Sony representatives. Reeves' comments to MCV implied that the system might see a simultaneous launch in the U.S. and Europe. "It is my job to match day and date with the U.S launch," said Reeves. "I am doing my very best to make that happen." The comments were widely interpreted to mean that Reeves was working to ensure that the European launch would be on the same day and date as the U.S. launch, but Sony officials were quick to address the confusion. "[David Reeves' comment] wasn't intended to imply that, in the context of the question," said Sony Computer Entertainment Europe head of corporate communications Nick Sharples to business site GamesIndustry.biz. "He was referring to the fact that as boss of the European organisation, it's his job and his responsibility to try and get PlayStation 3 into Europe as quickly as he possibly can. That's what he's trying to achieve." Besides the regional confusion, Reeves also backed up the Sony company line that the launch is still on track for its original schedule. "There are so many rumors out there but no-one really knows the facts," said the Sony head. "I know what's going to happen and I am honestly very, very confident about it."
