As Plants vs. Zombies creator PopCap continues to expand, the company said it hired longtime Tech Data CEO Steve Raymund as the company's second outside board member. Tech Data is ranked as a Fortune 150 company, and Raymund was CEO there for over 20 years before he retired in 2006. Privately-owned PopCap said that Raymund's advice and experience in growing a young firm into large successful powerhouse will be important for the game maker's expansion plans. "Steve was CEO of a public company from a very young age, so his experience is directly relevant to PopCap’s current position and future growth prospects," said PopCap CEO David Roberts. Raymund is the sixth member of Seattle-based PopCap's board of directors. Independent investor Larry Bowman is the only other outside board member on the company's board. Other board members are CEO Roberts and PopCap co-founders Jason Kapalka, Brian Fiete and John Vechey. The company expects to add one more outside board member by the end of the year. "PopCap's prospects are extremely bright," Raymund said in a statement. PopCap, also responsible for Bookworm, Bejeweled and other titles, has seen much success from its casual games that reach out to a wide market. In February this year, the company said that the iPhone version of Plants vs. Zombies alone sold more than 300,000 units, generating more than $1 million in sales in its first nine days of availability.
