Havok has announced that Activision and Neversoft Entertainment's recently shipped Tony Hawk’s Project 8 is powered by the middleware firm's Havok Complete software suite. The technology allows for realistic physics and lifelike animations that assist game developers in building games that are realistic in the way characters, objects and vehicles move and interact with each other. The Havok Complete solution offers game developers the capabilities of Havok Physics and Havok Animation into one integrated solution. In addition, the developers at Neversoft utilized Havok Complete's character context system driven by Havok's asynchronous collision detection system to further take advantage of the capabilities of next-generation console hardware. While the game is also available for the Xbox, PlayStation 2, and PSP, Tony Hawk’s Project 8 was re-engineered from the ground up for Sony and Microsoft’s next-generation consoles. The developers of Tony Hawk’s Project 8 looked to Havok Complete to help create the “most realistic virtual skate experience ever,” according to Neversoft's senior producer Clive Burdon, and to this end the team needed a solution that could offer “a great sense of momentum and gravity.” Burdon added: “The features of Havok Complete provided a big advantage to our development team, in terms of set-up time and tool chain management. We had a creative vision for what we wanted to produce and Havok Complete made it quicker, easier and safer for us to turn it into a technical reality.”
