Perforce Software has announced the availability of the newest release of Perforce, the Fast Software Configuration Management (SCM) System. Perforce tracks and manages source code, document, and digital asset development for software production environments. The newest version, release 2006.1, includes enhancements to the Perforce Server, as well as updates to the user interface and support for a wider range of IDEs. Other enhancements include the ability to now log individual file access to produce an audit trail, which is helpful to companies struggling to comply with regulations surrounding Sarbanes-Oxley; improved file merging, resulting in a faster ‘integrate’ command and better merge base selection; RSS 2.0 support in the Perforce Web Client (P4Web), which enables users to track jobs and changelists by subscribing to RSS feeds from within P4Web; and support for Microsoft Visual Studio 8.0 through its plug-in support for the Microsoft SCC API. “At Perforce we believe in product evolution, not revolution,” explained Christopher Seiwald, president and CTO of Perforce Software. “As our typical customer has grown from hundreds to thousands of users, we’ve kept pace with performance enhancements to the server, and we continue to improve the visual appeal of our client software in order to better enable developers to exploit the power of the server.”
