PSP Hardware Still Out In Front In Japan

Market research firm Media Create has revealed data for weekly hardware sales in Japan for the week ending May 25th, following details of the software top thirty. Despite a continued decrease in software sales, demand for hardware rallied slightly - although still at a level slightly below the average for most formats. Nonetheless, Sony's PSP handheld remains the best selling console in Japan, with sales down this week by 6,000 units to 64,449. With a rise in sales of nearly 7,500 units, the Wii was still in second place with 49,047 units sold. Nintendo DS sales rose by around 2,500 units to 37,404 – despite the number one success of Sega’s Let’s Make a Pro Baseball Team!. PlayStation 3 sales rose by over 1,000 units to 9,071, with two software titles in the top fifty. PlayStation 2 sales were almost static at 7,189, while Xbox 360 sales increased by a few hundred to 1,947 units. Overall in the software sales top fifty, there were thirty-two titles for the Nintendo DS, eight for the Wii, three each for the PSP and PlayStation 2, two for the PlayStation 3 and two for the Xbox 360 (including new entry John Woo presents Stranglehold at number forty-six).
