Market research firm Media Create has revealed data for weekly hardware sales in Japan for the week ending June 8th, following details of the software top thirty. Despite all the major formats having a title in the software top ten this week most consoles saw a fall in sales during the same period. The lack of correlation between hardware and software success continued, with the PSP still the best selling format despite sales dropping by almost 10,000 units to 62,016. Wii sales were down over 6,000 units to 44,639, while the Nintendo DS experienced a drop of over 2,000 units to 35,020 – despite accounting for over 50 percent of software titles in the top fifty. The PlayStation 3 did see an increase in sales, thanks to the success of Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit, although the rise was only by around 1,500 units to 10,856. PlayStation 2 sales dipped by around 1,000 units to 6,279, while the Xbox 360 saw an even smaller boost from the release of Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit, up a few hundred units to 2,280. Overall in the software sales top fifty there were twenty-seven titles for the Nintendo DS, ten for the Wii, six for the PSP, three for the PlayStation 2 and two each for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
