Rebellion Studios, UK-headquartered developers of Sniper Elite and Judge Dredd: Dredd vs. Death, have been tapped by the U.S. Army National Guard to produce a promotional PC 'serious game' for the U.S. military branch, for which an extended commercial version will also debut. The game, called PRISM: Threat Level Red, will be developed for publisher Playlogic, with assistance from National Guard liaison Rival Interactive and official U.S. Army design help. The title will be a first-person shooter, with stealth gameplay incorporated in addition to the core FPS gameplay. According to initial information, gameplay in the title revolves around "unconventional application of new and emerging weaponsand surveillance technologies in the war against terrorism", and the campaign mode contains scenarios that include attacks on key U.S. infrastructures, though the setting for the title is the near-future. As previously referenced, Rebellion will produce both a commercial version of the game as well as a special promotional version called PRISM: Guard Shield. Like the U.S. Army's America's Army and the Navy's Navy Training: Strike and Retrieve, the game is meant as a tool for recruitment into the service. "We are pleased to develop PRISM for Playlogic," said Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley. "Playlogic is a young and aggressive publisher with an impressive line-up for 2006. We believe that PRISM will contribute to the high quality of the line-up." Both versions of PRISM are scheduled to be released for PC in the third quarter of 2006.
