Motion capture studios CaptiveMotion and Metricminds collaborated with Remedy Entertainment to complete cutscene facial animations in Remedy's upcoming Alan Wake, the companies said this week. CaptiveMotion is an Arizona-based facial performance capture studio, while Metricminds is a Frankfurt-based motion capture and animation studio. According to Metricminds managing partner Philip Weiss, the two companies "came together at the end of a five-year [development cycle]" to create facial animation's for Alan Wake's cutscenes, providing animation data for 21 characters that Remedy could pair up with full-body motion capture that had already been separately prepared. "Working with Remedy and metricminds on such a highly anticipated title was an exceptional opportunity for us," said CaptiveMotion CEO Adam Kraver. "We’ve been big fans of [Remedy's] Max Payne franchise, and I have personally been looking forward to Alan Wake since it was first announced." "But as an avid gamer," Kraver added, "there is a big downside to working on a project like this: spoilers." To keep other gamers from suffering similar misfortune, Kraver courteously refrained from including Alan Wake spoilers in this week's press release.
