The Nintendo DSi has sold over 3 million units in Japan since its November 2008 release, as total sales of the Nintendo DS line climb to 27 million in that country alone, Famitsu publisher Enterbrain said.
As of August 2 in Japan, Nintendo has sold just over 3 million units of the Nintendo DSi, the third generation of the company's phenomenally popular touch screen handheld, Famitsu publisher Enterbrain said Tuesday. That brings total DS sales in Japan, including the original DS, the DS Lite, and DSi, to 27 million units as of August 2, according to a Kotaku translation of the report. The DSi saw weekly sales more than double week-on-week in Japan on the release of the Square Enix DS RPG Dragon Quest IX. That title has sold over 3 million units. Nintendo said in its latest earnings report for the June quarter that the DSi has sold 6.68 million units worldwide. The handheld, which added new features like two cameras lenses, larger screens and a slimmer profile, launched in Japan on November 1, and the rest of the world in April 2009. Nintendo forecast that it would sell 30 million DS units total worldwide during the fiscal year from April 2009 to March 2010. As of the end of June, the entire DS line has sold 107.75 million units worldwide.
