Report: Gaming Exec Vrabeck Leaves Legendary Pictures 2

Former Activision and Electronic Arts executive Kathy Vrabeck is leaving her latest position as head of Legendary Pictures' digital division, where since 2009 she's been responsible for activities including the film company's video game efforts. According to a report in the Los Angeles Times, Vrabeck will be leaving because Legendary, a co-financier of films like Inception and The Dark Knight, has decided to focus on its movie, comic book and TV businesses, after exploring acquisitions of Epic Games and Runescape house Jagex that didn't pan out. Vrabeck did oversee Legendary's moves into the mobile gaming space, however; these included the Ninja Assassin iPhone game, and a comic book tie-in to Legendary's Clash of the Titans film. But most of the company's business moves since then have been in other media spaces, which "left little for Vrabeck to do", according to the report. Vrabeck first gained a larger profile within the game industry at Activision, where over seven years at the publisher she worked up to role of president of publishing. She joined EA as head of its Casual label, where she stayed for just over a year until a company reorganization dismantled that label as a discrete entity. She will continue to represent Legendary on its board of directors, and will make a personal investment in an email newsletter called GeekChic Daily, says the report.
