Reports have been circulating online that the new mandatory system update for the Xbox 360 for March, released over Xbox Live, has been causing significant problems for a small minority of Xbox 360 systems, according to multiple reports on official site Xbox.com's messageboards. According to the anecdotal evidence, following the installation of the patch, the system is reported to freeze some time later, and again on subsequent startups, even crashing the Xbox 360 Dashboard. A number of consumers have reported playing Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter immediately before seeing the problems, believing that this may be related to the issues. But the problem is certainly not affecting everyone who installs the update, nor everyone who tries playing GRAW, which is, in any case, one of the most popular Xbox 360 titles in the last week, leading some users to wonder whether the problem is either a software one or overheating related - neither of which is proven at this time. User 'paulsimms' explained of his problem on the Xbox.com messageboards: "My Xbox has worked fine since I got it. I was out of town for three weeks. When I came back, the first thing it did when I turned it on was install the March update. I hadn't even bought GRAW yet. Twenty minutes later -- dead. Three red wedges. After 20 minutes unplugged, it would work for 10 seconds, then back to three red wedges." Thus far, the update is still available for download, though Microsoft representatives indicated in the official forum thread that they are looking into the problem, and that users should perform normal checks before calling them regarding the problem. Outside of that, the company has made no official statement as to the cause, if any, of the glitch, which could theoretically be similar issues as affected a small minority of consoles immediately post-launch.
