Helsinki-based developer Rocket Pack has launched Warimals: Cats vs. Dogs, which it describes as the first social game built on HTML5 to be released on Facebook. Currently in its alpha phase, Warimals is a browser-based multiplatform title available through both Facebook and a standalone site. The studio notes that the game can be played not just in PC browsers but also on iPhone, iPad, and Android devices. The game is an asynchronous massively multiplayer online title that features tower-defense-style gameplay and social gaming mechanics/features. As its title suggests, Warimals tells "the epic story about the everlasting war waged between cats and dogs." Rocket Pack, which opened in Mrach of this year, built the game with Rocket Engine, its HTML5 game development platform. The Finnish start-up says developers can use Rocket Engine to build social games that work on multiple platforms and don't require installation or plugins. "There's one runtime that will come with every new device that has a screen - the browser," says Rocket Pack CEO Jiri Kupiainen. "With the new connected TVs and things like OpenGL just around the corner, we are very excited about the future of Rocket Engine and games that will be built with it."
