Saling The World: Age of Conan, Mass Effect Lead U.S. PC Charts

Gamasutra's weekly column, "Saling The World", covers the top five real-time Amazon.com sellers for every available platform in the United States, Japan, and Europe, providing an important update of sales patterns worldwide. This week's charts, with data taken from May 29th, 2008, see a slow sales climb for Wii Fit in North America as supply shortages continue, while Age of Conan and Mass Effect top regional PC software sales. Data for "Saling The World" comes courtesy of the public sales information on Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, and Amazon.co.jp, with sales split out for each platform and territory, and pre-orders disregarded. Wii Fit moves up North America's Wii chart slightly in its second week of release, though sales are still hampered by widespread supply shortages. Aftermarket prices appear to have stabilized at just above $160, and prices could soon fall once additional supply becomes available to satisfy demand. A discounted Guitar Hero III takes third in this week's results, meanwhile, as the upcoming Wii port of Rock Band outpaces Wii Play's U.S. chart performance in weekly preorder sales. In Japan, Bandai's exercise mat-bundled Family Trainer debuts as this week's best-selling Wii title, dropping Mario Kart Wii out of the region's top spot for the first time since its release last month. This week's North American Xbox 360 software sales at Amazon find Grand Theft Auto IV falling to third place in favor of Rainbow Six Vegas 2 and the Game of the Year Edition of Call of Duty 4. Both titles saw recent spikes in popularity resulting from a day-long Xbox 360 games sale at Amazon. The peripheral-bundled trivia title Scene It? also finds a significant boost in the wake of the sale, finishing at fourth place in overall weekly numbers in the United States. Japanese sales are headed by the just-released Lost Planet: Colonies and Overlord, meanwhile, as Arc System Works' anticipated 2D fighter Battle Fantasia debuts at fourth place in this week's results. Gran Turismo 5 Prologue jumps up to third place, as last week's newcomers Haze and SingStar are nowhere to be seen among this week's top U.S. sellers. The PC version of Mass Effect debuts this week to a third-place finish, meanwhile, though customer ratings at Amazon have thus far been poor, due to the title's widely criticized copy protection. Meanwhile, this week's release of Akatsuki no Amaneka to Aoi Kyojin leads PC sales in Japan, where two different versions of Final Fantasy XI also make a top five finish.
