Gamasutra's latest custom compiled Amazon.com charts find Borderlands outperforming Forza Motorsport 3 in the United States, as Hikari no 4 Senshi: Final Fantasy Gaiden leads DS sales in Japan.
Gamasutra's weekly column, "Saling The World", covers the top five sellers for every available platform in the United States, Japan, and Europe, providing an important update of sales patterns worldwide. This week's charts, with data taken from October 29th, 2009, find Borderlands outperforming Forza Motorsport 3 in the United States, as Hikari no 4 Senshi: Final Fantasy Gaiden leads DS sales in Japan. Data for "Saling The World" comes courtesy of the public sales information on Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, and Amazon.co.jp, with sales split out for each platform and territory, and pre-orders disregarded. This results in a true sense of what games are selling worldwide on the real-time updated service, as follows: Nintendo Wii North America: 1. Wii Sports Resort -- 2 Wii MotionPlus Bundle (Nintendo), 2. Wii Fit Plus (Nintendo), 3. Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board (Nintendo), 4. Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo), 5. The Biggest Loser (THQ). Japan: 1. Wii Fit Plus (Nintendo), 2. Super Robot Taisen Neo (Banpresto), 3. Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board (Nintendo), 4. Tsumi to Batsu: Uchuu no Koukeisha (Nintendo), 5. Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo). This week's North American Nintendo Wii sales chart remains much the same as last week's, with Wii Sports Resort and Wii Fit Plus continuing to head overall sales for the platform. Wii Fit Plus also remains a top seller in Japan, as Banpresto's Super Robot Taisen Neo premieres at second place. Treasure's Tsumi to Batsu: Uchuu no Koukeisha (Sin & Punishment 2) sees a big week as well, landing fourth place in its first week of release. Xbox 360 North America: 1. Borderlands (2K Games), 2. Forza Motorsport 3 (Microsoft), 3. Halo 3: ODST (Microsoft), 4. Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City (Rockstar), 5. FIFA Soccer 10 (EA Sports). Japan: 1. Turn 10's racing sim sequel Forza Motorsport 3 debuts at second place in the United States this week, as 2K's Borderlands tops the charts for the second week in a row. Halo 3: ODST falls to third place in today's domestic sales rankings at Amazon, while Rockstar's recently released DLC compilation disc Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City beats out FIFA Soccer 10 to take fourth place. PlayStation 3 North America: 1. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (SCEA), 2. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune -- Greatest Hits (SCEA), 3. Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time (SCEA), 4. While Uncharted 2 continues to do brisk business in worldwide sales, the original Uncharted has seen a steady rise in popularity in the United States, and finishes this week at second place. The Ratchet & Clank Future series sequel A Crack in Time finishes third in its first week of release, meanwhile, as Demon's Souls and Namco Bandai's new one-on-one fighter Tekken 6 follow close behind. In Japan, Bayonetta comes up short against Uncharted 2 in its debut week, as Tekken 6 premieres at third place. PlayStation 2 North America: 1. Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection (Konami), 2. WWE SmackDown vs. RAW 2010's reign as the PS2's top seller in the United States was short-lived, as the title has since been toppled by Konami's Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection. This year's versions of EA's Madden and FIFA franchises follow at third and fourth place in the domestic rankings, while the peripheral-bundled Rock Band Special Edition takes fifth. PC North America: 1. The Sims 3 (EA Games), 2. Borderlands (2K Games), 3. World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King (Blizzard), 4. Nancy Drew: Warnings at Waverly Academy (Her Interactive), 5. The Sims 3 once again takes the top spot in PC sales numbers in the United States, and is further boosted by a recent "Deal of the Day" price drop at Amazon. 2K's PC port of Borderlands also makes a big chart impression in its first week of release, while Nancy Drew: Warnings at Waverly Academy drops to fourth place in the wake of increased demand for World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King. Nintendo DS North America: 1. Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story (Nintendo), 2. Mario Kart DS (Nintendo), 3. Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days (Square Enix), 4. Scribblenauts (Warner Bros.), 5. After dropping out of the North American top five last week, Nintendo's Mario Kart DS is back at second place in today's rankings. Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story continues to head domestic Nintendo DS software sales, as Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box falls out of chart range for the first time since its initial release in August. In Japan, Square Enix's Hikari no 4 Senshi: Final Fantasy Gaiden steals the top chart spot away from Pocket Monsters: Soul Silver and Heart Gold, while Konami's Love Plus moves up a rank to finish at third place. SNK Playmore's Metal Slug Anthology makes a surprise appearance at the top of the U.S. PSP chart this week, thanks to a "Deal of the Day" promotional sale at Amazon. The rest of the chart offers few surprises, with God of War: Chains of Olympus and Dissidia Final Fantasy maintaining a lead over Gran Turismo and Resistance: Retribution. Elsewhere, Elminage II: Sousei no Megami to Unmei no Daichi debuts as this week's biggest seller in Japan, while Gran Turismo takes another chart victory in the UK.
