Gamasutra's "Saling The World" charts real-time Amazon.com charts this week show Capcom's Devil May Cry 4 debuting high in North America and the UK, while Nintendo's Dairantou Smash Brothers X continues to top Wii software sales in Japan.
Gamasutra's weekly column, "Saling The World", covers the top five sellers for every available platform in the United States, Japan, and Europe, providing an important update of sales patterns worldwide. This week's charts, with data taken from February 7th, 2008, show Devil May Cry 4 debuting high in North America and the UK, while Dairantou Smash Brothers X continues to top software sales in Japan. Data for "Saling The World" comes courtesy of the public sales information on Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, and Amazon.co.jp, with sales split out for each platform and territory, and pre-orders disregarded. This results in a true sense of what games are selling worldwide on the real-time updated service, as follows: Nintendo Wii North America: 1. Super Mario Galaxy (Nintendo), 3. Dance Dance Revolution: Hottest Party Bundle (Konami), 3. Endless Ocean (Nintendo), 4. Carnival Games (Global Star), 5. Game Party (Midway). Japan: 1. Dairantou Smash Brothers X (Nintendo), 2. Wii Fit (Nintendo), 3. Family Ski (Namco), 4. Wii Sports (Nintendo), 5. Super Mario Galaxy (Nintendo). UK: 1. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (Sega), 2. PDC World Championship Darts 2008 (Oxygen), 3. Wii Play (Nintendo), 4. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 (EA Sports), 5. Super Mario Galaxy (Nintendo). As lack of stock pushes last week's top seller Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock out of North American chart range, Super Mario Galaxy and Dance Dance Revolution: Hottest Party step up to claim first and second place in weekly sales. A restocked Carnival Games also sees an improvement in sales. In Japan, Dairantou Smash Brothers X remains at the top in its second week of release, and Wii Fit and Family Ski once again finish at second and third place. Xbox 360 North America: 1. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Activision), 2. Devil May Cry 4 (Capcom), 3. Rock Band Special Edition (EA Games), 4. Halo 3 (Microsoft), 5. Turok (Touchstone). Japan: 1. Devil May Cry 4 (Capcom), 2. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Activision), 3. Battlestations: Midway (Spike), 4. Dead Rising / Gears of War -- Xbox 360 Platinum Double Pack (Capcom/Microsoft), 5. Following a recent price drop at Amazon, the Xbox 360 version of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare leads as this week's best-selling software title across all platforms in North America. The recently released Devil May Cry 4 performs well at retailers in its first few days on store shelves in the U.S. and UK, and finishes second in weekly Xbox 360 sales in both regions. This week's release of Turok also makes a top-five finish in the United States, boasting initial sales that nearly beat out this week's sales of Halo 3. Meanwhile, Guitar Hero III falls out of North America's top five for the first time in many weeks, though Rock Band hangs on at third place. PlayStation 3 North America: 1. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Activision), 2. Devil May Cry 4 (Capcom), 3. Devil May Cry 4 -- Collector's Edition (Capcom), 4. Assassin's Creed (Ubisoft), 5. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (SCEA). Devil May Cry 4 lands this week in North America to strong sales on the PS3, with both its regular and collector's editions earning spots in the region's top five. This new competition pushes recent favorites like Rock Band and Burnout Paradise out of chart range, though both titles stand a chance of reappearing in future weeks. The Japanese and UK versions of Resistance: Fall of Man find their way back into both regions' top five this week, meanwhile, as Devil May Cry 4 and Disgaea 3 remain top sellers in Japan. PlayStation 2 North America: 1. Rock Band Special Edition (EA Games), 2. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock Bundle (Activision), 3. Guitar Hero II Bundle (Activision), 4. Yu-Gi-Oh! Amazon also reports a rush of preorders accompanying the recent announcement of Konami's upcoming compilation Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection, which will see release in March. Suzumiya Haruhi no Tomadoi achieves top sales again in Japan, and its closest competitor, the limited edition of the recently released Tales of Destiny: Director's Cut, sees demand that has exceeded supply at Amazon.co.jp. PC North America: 1. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Activision), 2. Sins of a Solar Empire (Stardock), 3. World of Warcraft Battlechest (Blizzard), 4. Crysis (EA Games), 5. The PC version of Call of Duty 4 receives a steeper price drop than the console versions at Amazon this week, and takes first place in weekly PC software sales as a result. The Nintendo DS port of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games breaks into North America's top five DS sellers list this week, finishing at fourth place. Mario Party DS tumbles out of the top five, meanwhile, as last week's resupply has been completely drained. Japanese DS sales are headed by a pair of recent Konami releases: the anime and manga-based L: The Prologue to Death Note - Rasen no Wana and Houkago Shounen, which led platform sales over the previous two weeks. Meanwhile, Square Enix's DS remake of Final Fantasy IV is pushed out of the top five for the first time since its release, as the brain training software titles Takahashi Shoten Kanshuu: Saihinshutsu! and Toeic Test DS Training move in at fourth and fifth place.
