Gamasutra's latest exclusively compiled Amazon.com charts find Ghostbusters heading Xbox 360 sales results in North America, while The Sims 3 continues to dominate worldwide PC software sales.
Gamasutra's weekly column, "Saling The World", covers the top five sellers for every available platform in the United States, Japan, and Europe, providing an important update of sales patterns worldwide. This week's charts, with data taken from June 18th, 2009, find Ghostbusters heading Xbox 360 sales results in North America, while The Sims 3 continues to dominate worldwide PC software sales. Data for "Saling The World" comes courtesy of the public sales information on Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, and Amazon.co.jp, with sales split out for each platform and territory, and pre-orders disregarded. This results in a true sense of what games are selling worldwide on the real-time updated service, as follows: Nintendo Wii North America: 1. EA Sports Active (EA Sports), 2. Wii Fit (Nintendo), 3. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 Wii MotionPlus Bundle (EA Sports), 4. Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo), 5. Wii Play (Nintendo). Japan: 1. Wii Fit (Nintendo), 2. Shape Boxing: Wii de Enjoy Diet! (Rocket Company), 3. Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo), 4. Wii Sports (Nintendo), 5. Wii de Asobu: Pikmin 2 (Nintendo). UK: 1. EA Sports Active (EA Sports), 2. Wii Fit (Nintendo), 3. My Fitness Coach (Ubisoft), 4. Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo), 5. Wii Play (Nintendo). EA Sports Active is back on top this week in North America, as last week's chart champion Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 falls to third place. Wii Fit continues to do brisk business at second place, as Wii Play replaces Grand Slam Tennis at fifth. Arc Rise Fantasia and Wii de Asobu: Chibi-Robo! drop out of the running in Japan, meanwhile, as the fitness titles Wii Fit and Shape Boxing lead this week's regional results. Xbox 360 North America: 1. Ghostbusters (Atari), 2. Red Faction: Guerrilla (THQ), 3. Call of Duty: World at War (Activision), 4. Prototype (Activision), 5. X-Men Origins: Wolverine (Activision). Gears of War 2 (Microsoft). Ghostbusters tops Xbox 360 software sales in the United States in its first week on store shelves. Red Faction: Guerrilla is pushed to second place in this week's results, as X-Men Origins: Wolverine returns to the top five following a drop in price at Amazon. In Japan, Activision's Prototype steals the top spot away from Shin Sangoku Musou 5 Empires. Mass Effect takes third, while Chikyuu Boueigun 3 (Earth Defense Force 2017) and BioShock follow at fourth and fifth. PlayStation 3 North America: 1. UFC 2009 Undisputed (THQ). A discounted Resistance: Fall of Man heads this week's North American PlayStation 3 sales at Amazon. Metal Gear Solid 4 also finds a resurgence of interest this week, after recently being rereleased as part of Sony's budget-priced "Greatest Hits" lineup. Elsewhere, Senjou no Valkyria and Demon's Souls head platform sales in Japan, as Ghostbusters, Prototype, and InFamous lead in the UK. PlayStation 2 North America: 1. Ghostbusters makes a strong sales impression in its first week of release on the PlayStation 2, finishing as the platform's second-best seller in the United States. The title's low retail price of $19.99 puts it in close competition with longtime chart favorites like Rock Band, Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection, and Shadow of the Colossus. The PC version of Ghostbusters only manages a fifth place finish in North America this week, as multiple versions of The Sims 3 and World of Warcraft continue to dominate sales on the platform. The Sims 3 finishes as this week's biggest software seller across all platforms in all regions, despite flagging sales for the USB drive-bundled Collector's Edition. Nintendo DS North America: 1. Last week's chart leader Professor Layton falls to fifth place, meanwhile, as The Legendary Starfy drops out of the regional top five. Nintendo's Tomodachi Collection leads Japanese Nintendo DS sales in its first week of release, leaving Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days and Gyakuten Kenji to take second and third place. Sega's Mugen Kouro slips to fifth place, while Level 5's Sloane to MacHale no Nazo no Monogatari moves up to finish fourth. PlayStation Portable North America: 1. God of War: Chains of Olympus rises up to take its place at first place, as Crisis Core, Liberty City Stories, and Sega Genesis Collection follow close behind.
