Gamasutra's latest custom compiled Amazon.com charts find New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 leading holiday sales in North America, as Phantasy Star Portable 2 heads multiplatform results in Japan.
Gamasutra's weekly column, "Saling The World", covers the top five sellers for every available platform in the United States, Japan, and Europe, providing an important update of sales patterns worldwide. This week's charts, with data taken from December 3rd, 2009, find New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 leading holiday sales in North America, as Phantasy Star Portable 2 heads multiplatform results in Japan. Data for "Saling The World" comes courtesy of the public sales information on Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, and Amazon.co.jp, with sales split out for each platform and territory, and pre-orders disregarded. This results in a true sense of what games are selling worldwide on the real-time updated service, as follows: Nintendo Wii North America: 1. New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Nintendo), 2. Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board (Nintendo), 3. Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo), 4. Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo), 5. Active Life: Extreme Challenge Bundle (Namco Bandai). Japan: 1. New Super Mario Bros. New Super Mario Bros. overtakes Wii Fit Plus in this week's Nintendo Wii sales rankings in North America, and is poised to lead platform sales throughout the holiday season. Wii Sports Resort and Mario Kart Wii also remain strong domestic sellers, as the exercise mat-bundled Active Life: Extreme Challenge joins the top five after a recent "Deal of the Day" price drop at Amazon. In Japan, Koei's Samurai Warriors series sequel Sengoku Musou takes third place in its debut week, while the recently released Momotarou Dentetsu 2010 finishes fifth. Xbox 360 North America: 1.
