Saling The World: Persona, Monster Hunter G Head Japanese Charts

Gamasutra's weekly column, "Saling The World", covers the top five real-time Amazon.com sellers for every available platform in the United States, Japan, and Europe, providing an important update of sales patterns worldwide. This week's charts, with data taken from April 30th, 2009, find Monster Hunter G and a PSP remake of Persona leading multiplatform sales in Japan, while Wii Fit and Resident Evil 5 continue to dominate stateside. Data for "Saling The World" comes courtesy of the public sales information on Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, and Amazon.co.jp, with sales split out for each platform and territory, and pre-orders disregarded. Last week's second-place title Gold's Gym Cardio Workout drops out of the North American Wii sales charts this week, while Namco Bandai's We Ski returns at fourth place following a recent sale at Amazon. Wii Fit continues to head overall sales, as Ubisoft's My Fitness Coach catches up to take second place. In Japan, Capcom's Monster Hunter G maintains a significant lead over all competing titles, while Konami's baseball sim Jikkyou Powerful Major League joins the charts this week at fifth place. Ubisoft claims two chart spots in Japan, meanwhile, with the recently released X-Blades taking top honors in weekly sales. Resident Evil 5 and LittleBigPlanet continue to see big sales, though Valkyria Chronicles has since dropped out of chart range after taking fifth place last week. Elsewhere, Koei's seafaring MMORPG premieres at third place this week in Japan. Senjou no Valkyria finishes just behind Killzone 2 in regional sales, while BioHazard 5 drops to fifth place. It took a steep price drop for Atlus' strategy-RPG Eternal Poison to bring an end to Samurai Shodown Anthology's month-long PS2 chart reign in the United States. Anthology still makes a strong showing at second place, however, and is likely to retake the top spot in next week's rankings. This week's U.S. PS2 sales results also show increased presale numbers for the upcoming Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner 2, while a reprinted Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga enjoys a related sales boost. In Japan, Artdink's recently released railway sim A Ressha de Gyoukou DS takes first place, while the do-it-yourself WarioWare sequel Made in Ore finishes second. Koei's Dynasty Warriors series remains a formidable sales force worldwide, with its latest entry, the spinoff title Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce, debuting as the fifth-biggest PSP seller of the week in North America. Budget-priced rereleases of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII and God of War: Chains of Olympus continue to lead regional sales, while Sega Genesis Collection returns this week at third place. Japanese PSP sales find a new leader in this week's release of Persona, meanwhile, as Bandai's ToraDora Portable! and Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G take second and third place.
