Saling The World: Professor Layton Sequel Leads 3DS Launch Sales

Gamasutra's latest custom compiled Amazon.com charts find Level 5's Layton emerging as the biggest-selling 3DS launch week game in Japan, while Just Dance 2 and Zumba Fitness top the charts stateside.

Gamasutra's weekly column, "Saling The World", covers the top five sellers for every available platform in the United States, Japan, and Europe, providing an important update of sales patterns worldwide. This week's charts, with data taken from March 3rd, 2011, find Level 5's Layton Kyouju to Kiseki no Kamen emerging as the biggest-selling Nintendo 3DS title in the platform's launch week in Japan, while Just Dance 2 and Zumba Fitness top the charts stateside. Data for "Saling The World" comes courtesy of the public sales information on Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, and Amazon.co.jp, with sales split out for each platform and territory, and pre-orders disregarded. This results in a true sense of what games are selling worldwide on the real-time updated service, as follows: Multiplatform North America: 1. Just Dance 2 (Ubisoft, Wii), 2. Michael Jackson: The Experience (Ubisoft, Wii), 3. Zumba Fitness (Majesco, Wii), 4. Call of Duty: Black Ops (Activision, X360), 5. Killzone 3 (SCEA, PS3). Japan: 1. Ubisoft's Just Dance 2 reclaims the top spot in North America's multiplatform charts, dropping last week's sales leader Michael Jackson: The Experience to second place. Majesco's Wii exercise title Zumba Fitness also gets a sales boost, overtaking Call of Duty: Black Ops and Killzone 3 in today's results. Square Enix heads multiplatform sales in Japan with its recently released Dissidia 012: Duodecim Final Fantasy, while Spike's Way of the Samurai series sequel Samurai Dou 4 leads over the Nintendo 3DS launch title Layton Kyouju to Kiseki no Kamen (Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle). Wii Fit Plus overtakes Shape Boxing 2 to become the platform's top seller in Japan, meanwhile, as newcomer Fitness Party and the returning Wii Party push Rune Factory: Oceans and SD Gundam G Generation World out of the regional charts. Bulletstorm drops out of the North American Xbox 360 charts despite a promising first-place debut last week. Call of Duty: Black Ops leads the week's results, with Kinect Sports and the Kinect peripheral-bundled Kinect Adventures trailing close behind. Namco's idol sim The Idolm@ster 2 remains the biggest-selling Xbox 360 title for the second week in a row in Japan, where EA's premiering Fight Night Champion challenges Atlus's Catherine at third place. Koei's Uncharted Waters sequel Daikoukai Jidai Online: Tierra Americana takes third following its recent launch in Japan, while Sega's Football Manager 2011 maintains its lead in Europe. After selling through its initial shipment at Amazon, Atlus's Radiant Historia remains a popular pick in this week's domestic Nintendo DS charts, despite inflated prices demanded by third-party sellers. Capcom's Ace Attorney Investigations sequel Gyakuten Kenji 2 is back on top in Japan, while Toy Story 3 overtakes New Super Mario Bros. in this week's UK charts. PlayStation Portable North America: 1. Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (Konami), 2. Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep (Square Enix), 3. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII (Square Enix), 4. Former Japanese chart leader Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity also sees a drop in popularity this week, while Tactics Ogre continues to outsell FIFA 11 in the UK.
