SIGGRAPH organizers the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) have announced that they will once again be hosting their two-day Sandbox video game symposium on August 4-5, alongside SIGGRAPH 2007 at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, California. According to the ACM, the symposium will consist of keynotes, panels and papers. In addition, a “Hot Games” session will preview unreleased titles from major game companies and independent developers. The event poses the questions: What are the creative, technological and commercial challenges facing this medium in the future? How do we relate great stories that leverage advances in technology? What is the continuing impact of this medium on individuals and society? While the deadline for paper and panel submissions expired on March 23, organizers are still currently accepting video previews of upcoming games that demonstrate the event's goals until July 1, 2007. Previews should be two minutes in length and must show game play. Previews should be in Quicktime format, either NTSC (480p) or HDTV (720p) format. In addition to organizers, the 2007 SIGGRAPH will also see the return of other technology events, including The Graphics Hardware Workshop and the Symposium on Computer Animation (SCA), as well as the debut of the International Symposium on Non-Photorealistic Animation and Rendering (NPAR) and the Emerging Display Technologies Workshop. Each of these events will take place during different days over the duration of SIGGRAPH 2007.
