The Media Development Authority of Singapore and the Serious Games Institute of United Kingdom announced the creation of a Games Solution Center in Singapore, along with a collaborative call for serious game project proposals. The Games Solution Center, to be located at Mediapolis Phase Zero in Singapore, uses Serious Games Institute resources to offer R&D and training services for developers of serious games. The Serious Games Institute expects over 500 area developers to benefit from the Games Solution Center over the next three years. The Serious Games Institute additionally offers game design mentorship and R&D for selected entries received during the collaborative call for papers. Singapore's Media Development Authority has devoted $5 million in funding over two years for selected serious game projects. "We are excited to partner with the Serious Games Institute of UK to grow the serious games sector in Singapore," said Thomas Lim, Senior Director of Interactive Media and Games at the Media Development Authority. "We hope that Singapore companies will make use of the opportunities that we have created to strengthen their expertise in creating serious games and explore new areas to further grow their business. Through this partnership, we also hope to work with UK game companies to hub their activities in Singapore, and to use Singapore as a launch pad for their ambitions in the Asian market." "We are very pleased to partner MDA in these exciting initiatives which we hope will catalyse the development of new serious game products in Singapore," said Serious Games Institute director Tim Luff. "The Serious Games Institute recognises the need to establish a key hub in Asia as a way to progress research, widen partnerships and support the growth of serious games across South East Asia. We chose to establish a dedicated hub in Singapore as we believe Singapore has the necessary resources and potential in this area." The proposal submission deadline is April 30th, 2011.
