GamerDNA, which develops community-based social interaction sites for gamers, has renamed itself from GuildCafe Entertainment and raised $3 million in Series A fundraising. Venture capital firm Flybridge Capital Partners led the investment. The company hopes to capitalize on what DFC Intelligence projects will be a $47B global market by 2009, with a "platform and genre-neutral community that encompasses all types of games and gamers." This goal is expanded from that of GamerDNA's currently-operated site, GuildCafe, whose social networking and community features are more tilted towards MMOs and certain other types of multiplayer games. The eventual GamerDNA site will be more universal. Said GamerDNA CEO Jon Radoff, "GuildCafe.com taught us a lot about the MMORPG market, and now we'll use that knowledge to expand beyond it. Our team consists of devoted gamers. The most exciting aspect of this expansion is that we're building the gaming community we've always wanted to join." Radoff was one of the designers of early MMO Legends of Future Past, which launched in 1992 and remained in service until 2000. Fellow LOFP designer Angela Bull also serves as a founder and developer of GamerDNA. The GamerDNA site is not open to new beta registrants, but can be sampled by those who are already registered with GuildCafe.
