Sony Online Entertainment released a cross-platform mobile application allowing EverQuest II players to chat and use other features in the client-based MMORPG from their smartphones. Launched yesterday and available for free, EverQuest II Mobile allows users to chat with EverQuest II players, check in-game mail messages, view/share character stats (faction, achievements, equipped items, etc.), view a guildmate's status and location, and find their own in-game location. The mobile application requires that users have an over-the-air data or WiFi connection, as well as an EverQuest II Station account. Both paid subscribers and free-to-play accounts can download and launch EverQuest II Mobile from the iOS, Android, and Blackberry marketplaces. Sony Online Entertainment joins a growing list of MMO publishers creating mobile apps for their players -- Blizzard released a free World of Warcraft Mobile Armory browser/iOS app tracking character info, items, and more (for $2.99 a month, they can also manage auctions remotely). NCsoft also launched a paid Aion Exchange iOS app last October allowing Aion players to view in-game stats, equipment, and auctions. It intends to put out an application for iOS devices, Android smartphones, and browsers to accompany upcoming MMO Guild Wars 2, too.
