Developer Softkinetic has announced that its body movement gesture recognition system iisu has officially been released, and is now available in Virtools' suite of 3D products. Softkinetic first announced both the product and the Virtools partnership at GDC 2008, where it described iisu as "the result of four years of research and development," compatible with most 3D depth sensing cameras to allow players to become the interface. The product is meant to filter out furniture, walls, and other players when interacted with. The company says its product is built with C and C++ for "high performance and low memory usage" and can be used with C, C++ or C# APIs in synchronous or asynchronous modes for adaptation to any 3D physical engine, allowing developers to use iisu to control navigation, view orientation, object manipulation, action triggers and screen pointing. Said Virtools developer 3DVIA VP Virgile Delporte, “We’re happy to see the rapid progress made by Softkinetic since GDC 2008, resulting in the availability of Softkinetic’s 3D gesture recognition middleware with our 3D game development platform. This tool will give developers a new level of control and creation and we are excited about the future play experiences that will be created with it.”
