While Microsoft and Nintendo have trumpeted their respective holidays successes over the past week, Sony has been silent.
Today, however, Sony Computer Entertainment UK broke that silence and revealed that the PS2 had a phenomenal Christmas, breaking hardware and software records for sales in Japan, North America and Europe. Through a combination of a ramp-up in its manufacturing and a series of sales promotions, Sony was able to sell 6.5 million units between Thanksgiving and Christmas, easily surpassing the 5 million units the company sold during the same period in 2001. The company said that 2002 was the biggest year for Sony Computer Entertainment since the Playstation was released in 1995.
