Sony Releases v2.41 Firmware For PlayStation 3

Officials from Sony have confirmed that version 2.41 of the PlayStation 3 firmware has now been released online, following the withdrawal of the keenly anticipated version 2.40. Sony had been forced to withdraw availability of the v2.40 firmware update after reports that the software was causing some consoles to freeze when loading a game. The number of complaints was reportedly small, with many consumers indicating that the update had installed without problems. Writing on the official PlayStation.blog website, PlayStation Network Operations director Eric Lempel commented: "As many of you know, we released PS3 firmware update v2.40 last week, but had to take it offline temporarily because, for a limited number of users, the XMB wouldn’t display after the update was installed. We’ve been able to fix the problem, and I’m happy to report that firmware update v2.41 will be released shortly." The original 2.40 update added Cross Media Bar (XMB) access from within a game, as well as support for an Achievement-like Trophy ranking and rewards system and a number of other improvements including personalized background music for games.
