Sony Computer Entertainment of America reports that the Playstation juggernaut beat the company's holiday sales predictions by a whopping 50 percent. According to the company's own figures, Playstation as a whole generated $1.5 billion in retail sales over the holiday period, a good bit above the forecast of $1 billion that Sony had made in November. Sony says that 3 million Playstations were sold between November 1 and December 31, pushing the console's North American installed base of 25 million units. "We have made considerable strides towards achieving our vision for PlayStation by delivering the broadest gaming audience in history." said Sony America President and COO Kaz Hirai.
