Independent publisher SouthPeak Games has announced a studio licensing agreement with Epic Games to use its Unreal Engine 3 in the development of multiple PC and video game titles worldwide. The agreement is in effect throughout the life of the UE3 technology application across all major platforms, including downloadable content. SouthPeak's first release under the new license will be Monster Madness EX: Battle for Suburbia, currently under development by Psyonix Studios for Playstation 3. SouthPeak EVP Katie Morgan said the agreement creates an opportunity for independent developers to bring their games to market with next-generation technology, and that the company aims to give developers "a chance to focus on creating their games without spending the resources to create an engine to support it.” Epic VP Mark Rein commented, “We see this as a landmark agreement for Epic and the UE3 technology because of SouthPeak’s focus on independent developers. They are going to bring UE3 to a group of developers that have fantastic games but would typically have to wait a long time to work with our award-winning game engine.”
