Warren Spector, best known for founding Ion Storm’s Austin Studio (which produced Deus Ex) and currently vice president and creative director at Junction Point Studios (owned by Disney Studios Interactive), will be the featured keynote speaker at the first ever Game Education Summit. The summit will be held on the Dallas campus of Southern Methodist University, which is home to The Guildhall, a well-known graduate school for game development. The event is designed to be a powwow for game educators and professional game developers who want to tighten the gap between the industry and academia. A major focus of the summit will be on what the industry is looking for in university graduate hires. Spector, who is speaking on the second day of the event, will be joined by his colleague Mark Meyers, vice president of North America production at Disney Studios Interactive. Colleen McCreary, global director of strategic education and outreach initiatives for Electronic Arts, will be the keynote speaker the previous day. In addition to the keynotes, conference sessions will cover topics such as teaching methodologies for game development education and starting a game development program. Registration for the Game Education Summit, June 10-13, is currently open. See www.gameeducationsummit.com for more information.
