The Heritage Foundation's manifesto for the possible next administration could do great harm to many, including large portions of the game development community.
Nintendo format titles dominate the last major week of sales in the Japanese New Year gift giving season, with Mario Party DS once again at number one, and six of the top ten titles Wii exclusives, including Wii Fit and Wii Sports.
Regular chart compiler Media Create has revealed details of the top thirty selling console games for the week ending January 6th, in what is the last major week of sales in the Japanese winter/New Year gift giving season. Despite some variable performances during the quieter autumn period the domination of Nintendo titles going into the New Year is absolute. The top thirteen titles are solely for either the Wii or Nintendo DS, with nine of these being published by Nintendo themselves. Six of the games in the top ten are Wii games, a record best for the format in Japan, and six of the top thirteen titles feature Nintendo company mascot Mario. There are only five non-Nintendo format games in the top thirty: three on PlayStation 2 and two on PSP. The highest ranked is Capcom’s Monster Hunter Freedom 2 on PSP at number fourteen, with last week’s number one Super Robot Wars Original Generation Gaiden on PlayStation 2 falling as far as number eighteen. The number one title of the week is once again Mario Party DS, with sales of 196,000 making for a lifetime title of almost 1.5 million in Japan alone. This makes it the best selling Mario Party game ever in Japan, with Mario Party 8 at number ten the second best selling. Wii Fit and Wii Sports, at numbers two and three respectively, both sold over 100,000 units this week, with Square Enix’s Final Fantasy IV at number four just bubbling under at 91,000 units. Sales of Super Mario Galaxy have also continued to show considerable longevity, already almost equaling sales of the GameCube’s Super Mario Sunshine with a total this week of 82,000 units.
