Strong Game Market Lifts Electronics Boutique Results

Electronics Boutique announced fiscal results for Q4, posting record revenues thanks to the hot console game market.

Total revenues increased 47 percent to $490.5 million, up from $334.0 million last year. Net income for the period was $17.7 million (67 cents per share), compared to $13.1 million (58 cents per share) last year. This figure includes a $14.9 million pre-tax charge related to costs associated with the closure of EB Kids and the sale of its BC Sports Collectibles business. For the year ended February 2, total revenues climbed 32 percent to $1.0 billion, from $770.8 million a year ago. Net income for fiscal 2002 was $17.7 million (73 cents per share), compared with $13.9 million in fiscal 2001. The company had 937 stores in operation as of February 2, 2002 compared with 737 stores a year ago. The company said it expects to open about 200 new stores in fiscal 2003 in the United States and in its existing international markets.
