Tecmo’s DS Detective Series Tops Japanese Charts

A new Nintendo DS detective adventure from Tecmo has topped the Japanese sales charts this week, with Factor 5’s PS3 action title Lair debuting at number seven, and Project Gotham Racing 4 on 360 coming in only at number twenty-five.

The Japanese game charts have a new number one this week, with a detective mystery style graphic adventure from Ninja Gaiden publisher Tecmo topping the countdown. The Nintendo DS title, called DS Nishimura Kyotaro Suspense Shin Tantei Series: Kyoto Atami Zekkai no Kotou - Satsui no Wana, sold 61,000 units overall, though it has not been announced for Western localization. Technically, the second best selling game of the week is still Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 2 for DS, with combined sales of both SKUs totaling 48,000 units. The second highest new entry is 2D beat ‘em-up Arcana Heart, a coin-op conversion for the PlayStation 2 from publisher AQ Interactive, with 23,000 units sold. The next highest entry is Factor 5’s Lair at number seven, with 22,000 units sold. Although poorly received in North America, the PlayStation 3 exclusive has easily outsold Project Gotham Racing 4 on Xbox 360 – which debuts this week at number twenty-five. Although the make-up of the chart this week has returned somewhat to normal from previous weeks – being dominated by Nintendo DS and PlayStation 2 games – sales are still below average, with both the ninth and tenth bestselling titles recording only around 16,000 unit sales. There are also no Wii titles in the top ten, but instead five overall in the top thirty, the highest ranking being Mario Party 8 at number thirteen.
