There is not a single new entry in Chart Track's UK game sales top forty this week, as the top three remains unchanged for the fourth week in a row - featuring THQ's Cars, Rockstar's GTA: Liberty City Stories, and Nintendo's New Super Mario Bros, in that order. Although the so-called summer games drought is a traditional feature of the British games industry, this year’s has been particularly severe. Coupled with the usual paucity of releases in the months after Christmas, the UK game retail industry has remained in a state of near-stasis for a significant time now. With publishers failing to take advantage of the lack of competition with new releases, retailers have continued to discount older titles. The Sims series continues to prove popular, with the start of the English soccer season seeing both last year’s entries in the Pro Evolution Soccer and FIFA franchises back in the top ten. Other older titles returning to the charts include The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion at number twenty-five, True Crime: New York City at number twenty-seven, the evergreen The Simpsons: Hit & Run at number thirty-three, Worms: Open Warfare at number thirty-five, The Matrix: The Path of Neo at number thirty-seven and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire at number thirty-eight.
