The Independent Game Developers Association, a national trade association representing games software developers in the UK and Europe, has announced the appointment of public affairs specialist Richard Wilson as its new CEO, who will take over the position beginning in March. Commenting on his new role, Wilson said: "I am delighted to have been appointed CEO of Tiga. It is a lean, innovative and effective trade association that does a magnificent job in serving the interests of UK games developers. Fred Hasson has been an outstanding CEO and it is an honour to follow him in this role." "I am looking forward to campaigning vigorously on behalf of Tiga members, further enhancing Tiga's effectiveness and raising the profile of the UK games development sector,” he added. The announcement was made at the organization’s annual awards ceremony, with the full list of winners reproduced below. The awards were voted on and won by Tiga members alone, based on games and technology developed during 2007. The company’s statement also includes a series of statistics concerning the UK games industry, which is claimed to be the fourth largest developer of games in the world in terms of revenue generation. A majority 59 percent of the population play video games in the UK, with developers contributing 30 percent of the country’s media exports and employing almost 9,000 staff in around 160 studios.
