Top-Grossing iTunes Apps: NBA Jam, Angry Birds Lead iPhone Charts

Apple's latest U.S. App Store game charts by revenue see NBA Jam and Angry Birds earning top iPhone sales, while Smurfs' Village and Scrabble remain big sellers on the iPad.

Every week, sister iPhone and iPad site FingerGaming rounds up the top-grossing iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad applications, as current that day in the iTunes App Store, and this chart is now available on Gamasutra. This week's U.S. revenue charts see NBA Jam and Angry Birds earning top iPhone sales, while Smurfs' Village and Scrabble remain big sellers on the iPad. These charts allow end users to see who is making the most money on the App Store that day. It differs significantly from the Top 10 games sales charts, which are dominated by lower-priced titles that sell more copies. Data comes courtesy of Apple's public sales information. All titles in the App Store's "Games" category are considered in chart rankings. This week's top-grossing iPhone and iPod Touch games are: 1. Angry Birds ($0.99) 2. NBA Jam ($4.99) 3. Haypi Kingdom (Free) 4. Smurfs' Village (Free) 5. N.O.V.A. 2 ($6.99) 6. Call of Duty: Zombies ($4.99) 7. Tap Zoo (Free) 8. Zombie Farm (Free) 9. Angry Birds Seasons ($0.99) 10. World War (Free) EA's NBA Jam continues to reap the benefits of being named Apple's iPhone Game of the Week, and ranks behind Angry Birds as today's second-highest grossing iOS game app. The microtransaction-supported MMORPG Haypi Kingdom follows at third, pushing Capcom's Smurfs' Village to fourth place. Gameloft's N.O.V.A. 2 earns fifth place thanks to a recent promotional price drop, as the free-to-play hits Tap Zoo, Zombie Farm, and World War compete with the popular paid titles Call of Duty: Zombies and Angry Birds Seasons in the latter half of today's top ten. Here are this week’s top-grossing iPad games: 1. Angry Birds HD ($4.99) 2. Smurfs' Village (Free) 3. Scrabble for iPad ($9.99) 4. Bakery Story: Valentine's Day (Free) 5. Angry Birds Seasons HD ($1.99) 6. World of Goo HD ($4.99) 7. Plants vs. Zombies HD ($6.99) 8. Fruit Ninja HD ($2.99) 9. Texas Poker (Free) 10. Monopoly for iPad ($9.99) Rovio's Angry Birds HD continues to lead iPad game sales, with Smurfs' Village earning enough microtransaction revenue to rank in at second place. EA's Scrabble for iPad moves up to third place, followed by TeamLava's holiday-themed Bakery Story: Valentine's Day. 2D Boy's World of Goo HD returns to the charts this week at sixth place, meanwhile, as PopCap's Plants vs. Zombies HD outperforms Halfbrick's Fruit Ninja HD, Zynga's Texas Poker, and EA's Monopoly for iPad.
