Top-Grossing iTunes Apps: Pac-Man's 30th Anniversary Brings Big Sales

Apple's latest U.S. App Store game charts by revenue see Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man return following a recent anniversary sale, as Hotel Mogul HD leads iPad sales in its debut week.

Every week, sister iPhone site FingerGaming rounds up the top-grossing iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad applications, as current that day in the iTunes App Store, and this chart is now available on Gamasutra. This week's U.S. revenue charts see Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man return following a recent anniversary sale, as Hotel Mogul HD leads iPad sales in its debut week. These charts allow end users to see who is making the most money on the App Store that day. It differs significantly from the Top 10 Games chart, which is ranked by sales, and therefore is dominated by lower-priced titles that sell more copies. Data comes courtesy of Apple's public sales information. All titles in the App Store's "Games" category are considered in chart rankings. This week's top-grossing iPhone titles are: 1. Angry Birds ($0.99) 2. Pac-Man ($4.99) 3. Shrek Forever After: The Game ($6.99) 4. Bowmaster ($0.99) 5. Bejeweled 2 ($2.99) 6. Call of Duty: World at War Zombies ($9.99) 7. Plants vs. Zombies ($2.99) 8. Monopoly ($2.99) 9. Ms. Pac-Man ($4.99) 10. Words With Friends ($2.99) Clickgamer's Angry Birds remains the App Store's biggest-selling app across all categories. Namco's Pac-Man takes second place following a weekend-long anniversary sale, as a price-dropped Ms. Pac-Man finishes ninth. iOccam's 99-cent archery sim Bowmaster finishes fourth in its debut week, placing behind Gameloft's premiering Shrek Forever After: The Game. Recent chart hits like Iron Man 2, Skate It, and Zombie Infection drop out of today's top ten, as EA's Monopoly returns at eighth place. Here are this week’s top-grossing iPad applications: 1. Hotel Mogul HD ($6.99) 2. Scrabble for iPad ($9.99) 3. Real Racing HD ($9.99) 4. Pac-Man for iPad ($4.99) 5. Plants vs. Zombies HD ($9.99) 6. TowerMadness HD ($7.99) 7. Angry Birds HD ($4.99) 8. Pinball HD ($2.99) 9. Flight Control HD ($4.99) 10. X-Plane for iPad ($9.99) Alawar Entertainment's management sim Hotel Mogul tops the iPad chart this week, overtaking last week's winners Scrabble for iPad and Real Racing HD. Pac-Man for iPad enters the top ten following Namco's 30th anniversary sale, beating out Plants vs. Zombies HD at fourth place. Limbic Software's tower defense title TowerMadness HD debuts at sixth, as Angry Birds HD, Pinball HD, Flight Control HD, and X-Plane finish up the week's results.
