Apple's latest U.S. App Store game charts by revenue see Angry Birds and Doodle Defense earning top iPhone sales, while World of Goo and Dungeon Hunter 2 HD emerge as big sellers on the iPad.
Every week, sister iPhone and iPad site FingerGaming rounds up the top-grossing iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad applications, as current that day in the iTunes App Store, and this chart is now available on Gamasutra. This week's U.S. revenue charts see Angry Birds and Doodle Defense earning top iPhone sales, while World of Goo and Dungeon Hunter 2 HD emerge as big sellers on the iPad. These charts allow end users to see who is making the most money on the App Store that day. It differs significantly from the Top 10 game sales chart, which is dominated by lower-priced titles that sell more copies. Data comes courtesy of Apple's public sales information. All titles in the App Store's "Games" category are considered in chart rankings. This week's top-grossing iPhone games are: 1. Angry Birds ($0.99) 2. Tap Zoo (Free) 3. Call of Duty: Zombies ($4.99) 4. Fruit Ninja ($0.99) 5. Zombie Farm (Free) 6. Doodle Defense ($0.99) 7. Burn the Rope ($0.99) 8. The Game of Life: Classic Edition ($2.99) 9. Plants vs. Zombies ($2.99) 10. Cut the Rope ($0.99) Pocket Gems' microtransaction-supported Tap Zoo overtakes Call of Duty: Zombies to claim second place in this week's results, trailing close behind Rovio's reigning Angry Birds. The Playforge's Zombie Farm also gets a chart boost this week, as newcomer Doodle Defense debuts ahead of Burn the Rope and EA's discounted The Game of Life at sixth place. Plants vs. Zombies HD ($6.99) 2D Boy's World of Goo makes an impressive showing in this week's iPad charts, surging to second place following a drop in price from $9.99 to $4.99. Angry Birds HD remains the platform's highest-grossing title, as the free-to-play Smurfs' Village and Bakery Story follow at third and fourth place. EA's iPad adaptations of Scrabble and Monopoly remain as popular as ever among App Store shoppers, while Gameloft's recently released Dungeon Hunter 2 HD gains enough sales momentum to propel it ahead of PopCap's Plants vs. Zombies HD at ninth place.
