Developer Topware Interactive and publisher Southpeak Interactive have gotten into a public disagreement over the reason behind Two Worlds II's recently announced delay from October, 2010 to January, 2011. In announcing the delay yesterday, Southpeak said the sequel to the 2007 RPG was already at "'AAA' level," but the extra time before release would be used to really perfect the final release. "We want Two Worlds II to be absolutely flawless when it launches in the North American market," the company said in a statement. "Although we could bring the game to market earlier in order to take advantage of the holiday buying season, we felt that we would do a better service to you by making sure that the game you want is absolutely as it should be." But in its own statement, Topware said Southpeak's description of the game as incomplete was "factually incorrect," and that production of the game wrapped in mid-September. Topware said the delay "arose primarily from concerns that the RPG genre was exceptionally crowded during the remainder of the 2010 holiday season." "Truth be told, fans only have so much time to spend playing these content-rich games, and there were concerns our title could potentially be lost in the fanfare," Topware Managing Director James Seaman said in the statement. Whatever the reason, the Two Worlds II delay comes as a number of high profile games have been pushed back to 2011 in recent weeks, including EA's NBA Elite 11, Take Two's L.A. Noire, Atari's Test Drive Unlimited 2, THQ's Red Faction: Armageddon, Sony's LittleBigPlanet 2 and Activision's True Crime: Honk Kong.
