Marlin Studios has released a library of 115 royalty-free tropical trees and shrubs. Tropical Trees & Foliage Alpha Maps ships on two CD-ROMs. The $239 library features 55 trees and 61 other plants, including shrubs, flowers, and leaves. The high-resolution images are provided in Targa (TGA) format, and each 32-bit tree image has a black background, along with an 8-bit alpha channel for use as a clipping mask. Three sample images are provided for free download on the product’s Web page. A portion of the sample palm tree is shown below, converted to PNG format. Those readers using most modern browsers other than IE/Win will see the tree composited against this page’s color, as a demonstration of the alpha mask’s quality.
