Ubisoft has announced that Assassin's Creed: Altaïr's Chronicles for the Nintendo DS, intended to be a direct prequel to the Assassin's Creed console title, slated for UK release in February 2008. In the original Assassin's Creed, Altaïr (whose name means "flying" in Arabic) is a member of an assassin's brotherhood tasked with slaying historical figures responsible for the Crusades. Ubisoft now says Altaïr's Chronicles will explore the character's backstory and the events leading up to 2007's console title. Altaïr's Chronicles features four cities of the Crusade's Middle East in 3D, and according to Ubisoft, will feature similar acrobatic moves and combo attacks as seen in the console title. John Parkes, EMEA Marketing Director at Ubisoft, commented, “The success of Assassin’s Creed worldwide has been incredible and we’re excited to delve deeper into the story and bring it to the Nintendo DS. Assassin’s Creed: Altaïr’s Chronicles will be a title that resonates with those who played the console version as well as those who have yet to discover the secrets of Assassin’s Creed.”
