Ubisoft has announced that its Montreal studio (Assassin's Creed) is creating a new entry in its Prince of Persia franchise, with a new Xbox 360, PS3, PC and DS volume of the game expected to be released for the 2008 holidays. While no details or official title for the new game has been announced, Ubisoft says the game will be created by the same team that developed the Prince of Persia Sands of Time trilogy, and will offer both a "new breed of gameplay" and "brand-new illustrative art style." In addition to the next-gen debut of the franchise, Ubisoft is also creating a new DS exclusive version of the game "specifically designed" for the handheld with "an entirely new storyline and new characters." Ubisoft's last release in the franchise came in July of 2007 with the Xbox Live Arcade remake of the original Prince of Persia, developed by Gameloft. Series creator Jordan Mechner is also keeping the franchise alive with a previously discussed film, and a new graphic novel, as discussed with Gamasutra in 2007.
