Mario Kart Wii is back as the number one selling game in the UK this week, with Nintendo format titles once gain dominating the top 10 and beyond. Sales of Mario Kart Wii were up 6 percent this week, while Wii Fit was down 24 percent at number two. Nintendo maintains control of the charts with four first party games in the top five and Nintendo format titles taking up 28 of the places in the individual format top 40. With few new releases of note, the only significant movement has been Sega’s Olympics titles, with Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games on the Wii up four places to number seven, Beijing 2008 on Xbox 360 up 10 places to number eight, the PlayStation 3 version up 13 places to number 11 and Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games on the Nintendo DS up four places to number 12. The highest new entry is also Olympics-related, with the unlicensed Summer Athletics from Eidos Interactive debuting at number 24 on the Wii. The other new entry of the week is Madden NFL 09, with the new iteration making one of the franchise’s less successful assaults on the UK chart. With British eyes apparently fixed on the country’s unusually strong Olympics performance, the Xbox 360 version charted only as high as number 26, with the PlayStation 3 version at number 38. Overall in the top 40, there were 14 games each for the Nintendo DS and Wii, with seven for the Xbox 360, five for the PlayStation 3 and zero for the PlayStation 2, PSP and PC.
