As expected, movie tie-ins King Kong and The Chronicles of Narnia have crept further up the UK sales charts this week, in advance of the release of the movies, although there has been a surprising amount of other movement as well. What is perhaps even more interesting is how closely the top ten resembles last year’s chart and even that from 2003, with the Need for Speed franchise in with a good chance of recording its third consecutive Christmas number one in the UK. The latest Need for Speed title continues to sell almost twice as much as its second placed rival, but Activision’s Call of Duty: Big Red One has recovered from a poor start to jump up to number three, after considerable television and point-of-sale advertising. There are no new entries this week, with all the major Christmas titles already out, but games which had previously seemed to have been lost in the Christmas rush have re-appeared outside the top ten, with The Incredibles: Rise of the Underminer at number twenty-five, Shrek SuperSlam at number twenty-eight, Sonic Rush at number thirty and SingStar ‘80s re-entering at number thirty-five. With no new stock of Xbox 360 consoles and many stores still unable to fulfill initial pre-orders, it is unsurprising to find that titles for the new format have slipped further down the chart. Perfect Dark Zero is now the only exclusive game in the top forty at number thirty-two.
