Electronic Arts' Need for Speed: Most Wanted has earned its fifth non-consecutive week at the top of the UK game sales charts, proving itself yet again to be the country’s favorite games franchise. Its post-Christmas success comes in the wake of continued, almost across the board, discounts for the most of the rest of the top twenty, with titles such as King Kong, Call of Duty: Big Red One, Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones, Shadow the Hedgehog, GUN and many others all commonly available for around £10 ($18) less than the usual £30-35 ($52-61) retail price. The only obvious exception to this widespread new trend is Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories which despite continued stock problems has risen six places to number twelve. Burnout Revenge has also reappeared in the top forty at number thirty, with Mario Kart DS the highest placed Nintendo DS exclusive at number twenty-four. With few significant new releases scheduled in January, the UK charts are likely to remain static for at least the next month, with additional price cuts and stock issues currently having more influence than new products.
