The top three selling video games have remained unchanged this week in the UK, with a relatively weak challenge from Call of Duty: Finest Hour making it all but certain that either Need for Speed or Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas will be the Christmas number one. Perhaps the most notable new entry this week is Prince of Persia: Warrior Within at number twelve. This low entry seems to justify those who suggested the previous game’s lack of success was simply due to it being released at the wrong time of year, and the somewhat-queried new look is not yet improving UK sales as Ubisoft might hope. The Incredibles, GoldenEye and Sega Superstars are the only games in the top twenty to move upwards this week. The Incredibles' success is obviously due to the recent release of the movie, although considering the bad word of mouth for GoldenEye, brand recognition seems the only likely explanation for the upsurge in fortunes for Electronic Arts’ latest Bond title. After a slow start, EyeToy title Sega Superstars has done increasingly well over the Christmas period and is now at number thirteen, ahead of Sony’s EyeToy: Play 2 at number twenty-three and the other multitude of similar EyeToy titles. There are now no significant titles to be released before Christmas, or at least none that are likely to penetrate the top ten, so it will be interesting to see whether the chart changes significantly from now until December 25th.
