OTEE announced an upcoming update to Unity, its 3D content toolset. The Unity tool itself is available for Mac OS X, but allows Mac executables, Windows executables, and browser versions to be created in a single action from the same tool. Due this Christmas, Unity 1.2 will add to the game-developer's arsenal, while delivering on the basic premise. Unity 1.2 features improvements on its graphics engine, such as an easy-to-use framework for realtime full-screen graphics effects, utilizing the shading engine. The engine features color-correction, grayscale, sepia, twirl effect, and a vortex effect. Unity's built-in tools can be extended, and new workflows added. User created wizards, context-menus, and commands can automate processes and repetitive tasks, and make editing complex games more efficient. The update also adds several seminal character-related features: a first-person (FPS) controller, tools to set up ragdolls, and improved character animation support. As is the case for all 1.x versions, Unity 1.2 is a free upgrade for existing customers. An early adopter rebate is still available. A free two-week trial can be downloaded from the website..
